Affiliate marketing is one of my favorite ways to make money online.
Ever since I launched Insane Freedom in May 2018, I've made at least $6000 in affiliate income. If you're a total beginner when it comes to affiliate marketing, be sure to read this post here.
The best thing about affiliate marketing is the semi-passive nature of it. It's really a great way to make residual income from blog posts you've written a long time ago, as well as building trust with your audience.
Today, we'll be learning about how to make money from affiliate marketing with Jeff Proctor, creator of Dollar Sprout. Jeff now makes more than $150,000 a month from affiliate marketing alone.
How amazing is that?!

How To Make $180,000 A Month Doing Affiliate Marketing
If you don't already know this, affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make money from your blog!
Some elite bloggers like Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents make up to $150,000 a month just from affiliate marketing. However, there is a steep learning curve when it comes to successfully making money from it. Here's how.
Please tell us a little about yourself, your affiliate marketing experience and how long you've been doing it.
My name is Jeff Sprout and I run a successful website called the Dollar Sprout. I've been doing affiliate marketing for three and a half years now. So far, we've made $180,000 in January and around $160,000 in February.
Explain briefly about your experience as an affiliate marketer, your results as well as how you discovered affiliate marketing as a great source of income for your blog.
When we first started our site, we had no idea what we were doing. In fact, we made almost $0 in our first year! Persistence (and experimentation) pays off, though.
Fast forward to now, and we are making well over $100,000 per month from affiliate marketing and building a great team of writers and editors to help us spread our content and reach even more people.
Why do you love doing affiliate marketing?
My favorite part about affiliate marketing is that I am 100% removed from the product creation process. That frees up more of my time to connect with readers, build out great free content, and test out different marketing strategies.
Did you take any online courses to learn about how to make money doing affiliate marketing?
Yes. I took Michelle Shroeder-Gardner's Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course.
Why do you think you succeeded at affiliate marketing?
I was patient, persistent and kept at it.
Taking Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing equipped me with the know-how when it comes to referring products and services. However, it did not directly help me make money from affiliate marketing.
My favorite part about affiliate marketing is that I am 100% removed from the product creation process. That frees up more of my time to connect with readers, build out great free content, and test out different marketing strategies.
What do you think are the main factors that contribute to the success of an affiliate marketer?
The affiliate product was presented well.
I think most beginner bloggers try to paste links everywhere hoping it will stick and make them money. It's very important to create quality content that is helpful, as well as being presented in an organised way that makes sense.
As an experienced affiliate marketer, what is the best advice you can give to a beginner?
Don't try to sell the expensive stuff right away.
Learn the basics by first starting out with promoting entry level products or services, or even lead generation.
From there, you can slowly transition into promoting high ticket products and services with higher commission rates.
Editor's Note:
Promote products and services that have actually HELPED you personally or professionally. Focus on sharing your experience and result in a personal way.
Additionally, you should also understand the affiliate product thoroughly. That way you can talk about the product/service in a genuine way without coming across as being pushy or sales-y.
In your opinion, how can someone who's made their first affiliate income create more consistent income through their website in the future?
More traffic, more content, and improved copywriting skills.
At the very core, this is all you need to do to accelerate earnings on a system that is currently working for you!
Conclusion
As you can see, affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to make a living from your blog! Although it can be difficult to make affiliate sales at first, it IS more than possible to become successful at it.
From my personal experience, it took a few months for me to make my very first $200 affiliate sale.
I also am a student of the Michelle Shroeder-Gardner's Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing online course. However, it's the COMBINATION of my hard work and practicing everything Michelle taught me on my blog that helped me succeed.
If you're a beginner, I sincerely recommend that you take a look at this course! Michelle also has a Facebook group for that online course and is always VERY helpful.
As an intermediate to advanced affiliate marketer though, Michelle's course might not have anything new for you, but it's still worth grabbing it for future reference. I try to go through Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing every month, and every single time I learn something new!
