Work at Home Jobs and Opportunities
One of the biggest reasons why I decided to quit my job to be a full time work at home wife is having the INSANE kind of freedom I've dreamt of for years! A year ago, I grew tired of the life I was leading. Working two to three jobs at a time just to make ends meet and then spending all my money on stuff I don't need.
The fact that I've left my dreams of being a business owner in the back burner also motivated me to change my life.
So, I started thinking about other possibilities to create a life I love. Around this time, I discovered the holy grail of Pinterest. While searching for working at home jobs, I stumbled upon these wonderful blogs!
If you're looking for working at home jobs, here are hundreds of ideas for you to choose from. Among my favourite resources when it comes to jobs for stay at home wives and moms to do are:

Along the way, I've purchased my courses and tried my hands on a few side hustles. The very first online course was Proofread Anywhere by Caitlyn Pyle. I was amazed when I read that Caitlyn made $3000 a month in 2007 as a freelance proofreader. I thought to myself, gee whiz! If she can do that, why can't I?
Taking that online course sent me down a rabbit hole, but it did kickstart my immense passion for side hustling, blogging and Pinterest!
Here are the side hustles that made me some side income before I quit my job:
- Transcribing
- Affiliate Marketing on Pinterest
- Freelance Writing
- Blogging
If you want to try your hand at blogging, Make Money Blogging For Beginners is the course I took that made me my first $200. Challenges of Being a Work at Home Wife
The decision to quit my job and focus on my Pinterest virtual assisting business was not easy. I did not actually make a sizeable income before I fired my boss. A couple of weeks into being a full time work at home wife, I got quite lonely and became depressed. That was because I was trying to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING possible to make a buck. Even when I was making literally next to nothing, I chugged along every minute I had on my computer trying to make things work.
Desperately clinging on to every single transcription project there is, I realised that what I'm doing is silly. Why not focus all of my energy into ACTUALLY getting more Pinterest VA clients? At that point, I only had ONE client. I was trying everything possible, to pitch to any prospect I could find to hire me as their Pinterest VA.
It wasn't until I realised that my focus was entirely wrong that I finally started getting more and more clients. Read my post here on the 11 proven ways to get more Pinterest VA clients for your virtual assisting business.
So here are some interesting challenges of being a full time work at home wife:
- It can get quite lonely sometimes. It feels like it takes forever for the husband to come home some days!
- Working from home and being your own boss requires a lot of hard work. It's not as easy or as glamorous as you think it is!
- Sometimes it's impossible to unplug or unwind because I'm constantly on my laptop or my phone.
- Payment can be sporadic, but as long as I know how to budget and manage my finances, I know I'll be fine.
- If I have plenty of work to do, it can feel unnecessary to get out of the house, let alone getting dressed. So some days I would stay in my sweatpants all day long looking like a crazy woman.
- This is definitely NOT for everyone. Why? Because some people like having a clear cut working/resting schedule, as in being an employee. Having the flexibility to work anywhere and anytime is a double-edged sword. You can become a workaholic if you're not careful!
Lessons from My Second Month Working at Home
Sometimes, I still can't believe that I've been my own boss for the past two months. It's been an amazing ride and I believe that there are even better things to come.
What I've learnt from running my virtual assistant business is how to value and market myself.
From being an introverted person who lacks confidence to running my business successfully, I've come a long way. Running a business is an adventure. Everyday, I will discover new things that I have to invest time and money in to learn. In my efforts to grow my business, it can sometimes become overwhelming and frustrating. Starting and growing a business is challenging, not because of the pressure of making money.
It's mostly because it's very easy to be run by your business if you forget your purpose and core values. Having a flexible work schedule gives me an immense sense of freedom. However, with this freedom also comes a burden. I'm not only the “employee” in my business but also the “manager”. That is why I have a few strict rules in place to prevent myself from burning out. After doing this full time for two months, here are the effective strategies I have to keep myself productive but happy( and staying sane!)
7 Tips for Running a Business from Home
When it comes to striking a “work life balance” as a digital nomad, here are the rules I have for myself that has kept me happy and productive:
- Have strict office hours. Instead of giving myself the flexibility to work anytime, I give myself fixed hours to do my work and schedule in breaks.
- Schedule in breaks, socialising time and hobbies. Having a balance between work and play is important when you work at home for yourself. That's why you should consider scheduling in a coffee session with your friends, spending time doing things other than your business and having time to rest and reflect. Sometimes, I even enjoy doing the chores just for the sake of a brain break.
- Get out of the house! Staying at home is fine by me, but I will lose my mind if I never step out of the house for even once during the day. It helps to get some fresh air once a day.
- Put on some decent clothes a.k.a get dressed. This tricks my brain into having a clear boundary of being the “working me” versus the “lounging me”.
- Mix up your routine. It can be quite monotonous after a while of always being my, myself and my laptop. Some days, I have a very productive morning by practicing my morning routine. Other days when I genuinely feel tired, I will sleep a while longer.
- Stay organised and uncluttered as much as possible. I don't have a home office as of yet, but I try to keep my home as tidy as possible. When I have a cluttered home, usually my mind is also fuzzy and unfocused.
- Have other projects going on that are not related to your business. A few weeks after quitting my job, I was offered an opportunity to join a music band with my ex-colleague. I immediately said yes. Heck, I need some human contact during the week! I work virtually and never meet my clients in person, so having that community( my band ) is great for my mental wellbeing. My husband is out for most of the day for work, so I'll need to have friends and a community to fall back on. My family members are all overseas.
